Apprentice Deputy Manager - Residential Childcare
About the role
- Assisting the Registered Manager in supporting, mentoring and supervising the Residential Childcare Worker team
- Stand in for the Registered Manager in meetings with external stakeholders, including social workers, regulatory bodies, education professionals, parents and carers when required
- Representing the Home/staff team at Tressell Leadership meetings when required
- Take responsibility for any monitoring and recording tasks and administrative duties that may reasonably be delegated by the Registered Manager
- To be part of the Tressell Homes On-Call service
- To prepare for, arrange, and facilitate staff meetings when required
- To engage in training appropriate to the role and maintain an up to date training profile
- To undertake any other managerial duties as may be necessary
Working week
Working on a shift-based rota, which may include daytime and evening shifts, weekends and bank holidays. Working hours will vary. The apprentice may also be required to work sleep-in or waking-night shifts, where applicable to the setting.

Training & development
The apprentice will complete their Level 5 apprenticeship in Children, Young People and Families / Residential Childcare Management alongside their employment, gaining practical management experience within the residential childcare setting.
Training will be delivered by Acorn Training through a combination of workplace learning, online learning, virtual training sessions and independent study. The apprentice will have regular contact with their dedicated trainer and will receive ongoing support throughout the programme.
The apprentice will complete off-the-job training during their normal working hours, equivalent to at least 6 hours per week on average. This may include virtual training sessions, learning activities, research, professional discussions, assignments, assessment preparation and other activities that support the development of the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for the apprenticeship.
The apprentice will apply their learning directly within the workplace, developing their leadership and management skills alongside experienced colleagues.
Successful completion of this apprenticeship will provide the knowledge, skills and practical management experience needed to progress within the residential childcare sector.
