About the role

As a Control Systems Degree Apprentice, you will follow a broad training programme designed to introduce you to the many elements of industrial control systems. You will learn about the powerful control systems and associated technology used to control, safeguard and monitor all aspects of plant operations. Over 5 years you will be trained in the design, development, maintenance and servicing of industrial control systems. You will gain experience in computer programming, fault finding, electrical principles, maintenance of industrial automation systems, knowledge of process plant operations, cyber security and control system technologies.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grades 9 to 4 (Grades A* to C) including Mathematics, English Language and one Science or Engineering subject. Mathematics GCSE at Grade 6 (Grade B) is essential or Grade C at A Level Mathematics. Minimum of 96 UCAS points at A-Level, T-Level, STEM subjects preferred (e.g., Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Science or Engineering) but not mandatory. Other Level 3 STEM qualifications may be considered. Vocational equivalents at level 3 or higher will also be considered. Candidates will be required to achieve appropriate security and medical clearances.

Training & development

3-month induction programme based at local off-site training facility. Work placements based on Sellafield site or satellite offices. Academic learning 1 day per week at off-site training facility. Some pathways include Practical Engineering Operations at local off-site training facility.
Future prospects
Phase 1: Level 5 ST0380 Nuclear Technician Apprenticeship and Level 5 Foundation Degree/HND in Engineering or Science. Phase 2 (for candidates with progression potential): Level 6 ST0289 Nuclear Scientist and Nuclear Engineer Apprenticeship and Level 6 Bachelor's Degree (BEng or BSc) in Engineering or Science over further 2-year period.
