About the role
The BEng (Hons) Sustainable Energy Engineering is a fully funded three-year Degree Apprenticeship that blends academic study with work-based learning. Designed with employers, it equips apprentices to tackle real-world challenges in renewable energy, low-carbon systems, and sustainability-driven innovation. Apprentices combine academic learning with practical, work-based training tailored to their employer's needs, earn a salary while studying with tuition fees fully funded through the Degree Apprenticeship model, and are assessed through coursework, lab work, and projects instead of formal exams.
Requirements
Standard entry requirements: 48 UCAS tariff points from an appropriate Level 3 qualification such as A Levels; 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C, including Maths and English Language/Welsh. Applicants without the necessary UCAS tariff points or who have qualifications that do not carry UCAS tariff points will be considered based on their professional experience within the industry. All applicants who do not meet the above requirements will be interviewed prior to being made an offer.

Training & development
Work-based learning is integrated throughout the three-year programme. Year 1 focuses on engineering fundamentals with hands-on workshops and practical lab work. Year 2 includes an Industrial Project aligning learning to business needs. Year 3 culminates in a substantial, employer-aligned final project. Teaching blends on-campus sessions with online activities through Active Learning Framework. Assessment strategy uses coursework, practical work, and project-based assessments instead of formal exams.
Future prospects
Graduates advance into senior technical, supervisory, or project management roles in the renewable and sustainable energy sectors, with the foundation for Chartered Engineer status or postgraduate study.
