Apprentice Residential Child Care Worker
About the role
- Maintain positive childcare practice and work within the service’s aims, objectives and working values; to deliver a quality, child-centred service
- Provide a positive role model for children and young people, and act as mentor to new team members
- Promote a safe and nurturing environment for children and young people, using a nurturing and enabling approach to maximising opportunities for the young people you support
- Be familiar with, and comply with, all policies and procedures
- Participate in the development of individual plans for children and young people
- Maintain all case file records, including risk assessments, safeguarding and education plans
- Maintain accurate records and reports, including all day to day documentation
- Accept responsibility for such monies as may be required in carrying out your duties
- Ensure at all times that the child or young person’s safety and well-being are paramount
- Immediately report any concerns of a child protection or safeguarding nature
- Attend reviews and planning meetings around individual children as and when required
- Participate in training and supervision and adopt a learning approach to personal development
- Attend all staff meetings as required
- Undertake all household duties as required, promote and maintain high standards of cleanliness
- Maintain a professional and respectful approach to dealing with outside agencies
- Respond to emergencies that may arise within the organisation, and comply with reasonable requests to cover staff shortfalls
- Any or all other duties that may be reasonably requested by your manager or the service
Working week
The apprentice will work on a shift-based rota, which may include daytime and evening shifts, weekends and bank holidays. The apprentice may also be required to work sleep-in or waking-night shifts, where applicable to the setting. Shifts TBC.

Training & development
Children, Young People and Families Practitioner Level 4.
Training will be delivered by Acorn Training, with a combination of workplace learning, online learning, virtual sessions and independent study. The apprentice will have regular contact with their dedicated trainer and will receive ongoing support throughout the programme.
The apprentice will be required to complete off-the-job training during their normal working hours, equivalent to at least 6-hours per week on average. This time will be used for activities such as training sessions, completing learning activities, studying, preparing for assessments and developing the knowledge and skills required for the apprenticeship.
The training programme is expected to take approximately 18-months to complete, followed by the End Point Assessment where applicable.
On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will have gained a recognised level qualification in Residential Childcare, valuable practical experience and the skills needed to build a rewarding career supporting children and young people.
