A paid six-year solicitor apprenticeship programme combining work experience with study. Apprentices spend four days per week working within legal teams at Weightmans and one day per week on off-the-job training with BPP University Law School. The programme leads to qualification as a solicitor upon completion, including a qualifying law degree (LLB) and solicitors qualifying examinations (SQE). Apprentices complete placements of six to twelve months in different legal teams and have opportunities to gain experience in non-legal business teams.

Stage 1 (Years 1-2): English legal system, contract law, tort or land law, client care, legal research, public law, plus training in how a law firm works, personal effectiveness, finance, Microsoft Office and time management. Stage 2 (Years 3-4): Criminal law, tort or land law, company law, trusts law, professional conduct, advocacy and negotiation, plus training in understanding clients, project management, pricing, presentation skills and negotiation. Stage 3 (Years 5-6): Property law & practice, dispute resolution, wills & administration of estates, criminal law & practice, Solicitor Qualifying Exams in year 6, plus training in business development, problem solving, decision making, horizon scanning and design thinking.

Bespoke learning and development programme throughout six years covering digital literacy, marketing, change management, law as a business and project management. Opportunity to gain experience in non-legal teams such as finance, IT and marketing.
