Apprenticeships are open from age 16, once you have finished Year 11 (S4 in Scotland).
About the role
- Assist with excavation, digging and preparing ground for construction.
- Learn how to install drainage, pipes and other underground services.
- Assist with foundations, concrete work and general groundworks.
- Use hand tools and basic construction equipment safely.
- Learn to read site plans and follow instructions from experienced workers.
- Help prepare and maintain the work site.
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
- Work as part of a team alongside experienced groundworkers.
- Develop practical skills while completing their apprenticeship training.
Working week
Monday to Friday. Shifts to be confirmed.

Future prospects
- Start as a Groundworks Apprentice and gain practical, on-site experience.
- Progress to a qualified Groundworker once the apprenticeship is completed.

- Progress into roles such as Chargehand, Supervisor or Site Manager.
