About the role

As a Mechatronics Apprentice at Amazon, you'll play a key role in keeping advanced automated sites running smoothly. You'll work with cutting-edge technology, learning how to install, maintain, and improve complex machinery that powers operations across the UK and Ireland. Gain practical, hands-on experience alongside qualified technicians, developing skills as a multi-skilled engineer in both electrical and mechanical disciplines. You'll combine classroom study with practical experience, working on installation, testing, commissioning, fault finding, troubleshooting, maintenance activities, and system upgrades.

Requirements

Be a UK national, or a non-UK national with the right to work in the UK, or an EU national with settled status. Have lived in the UK, an EEA country, or a British Overseas Territory for at least 3 years before the programme start date. Be a resident of the UK for the entire duration of the programme. Not be registered on another UK government-funded course ending August 2026 or later. Be 18 years or older before entering an Amazon building (September 2026). Have a minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above (or equivalent), including Maths, English, and a Science or Technology subject. Must not already have a higher degree, or be studying towards a higher degree, in the same or a related field.

Training & development

Year 1 involves classroom and workshop training. Subsequent years involve on-the-job learning at Amazon sites (Fulfilment Centre, Sortation Centre, or Delivery Station). The programme combines residential study with practical experience in installation, testing, commissioning, fault finding, troubleshooting, planned and preventative maintenance, mechanical and electrical system upgrades, and pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Future prospects
Upon completion, you'll be equipped to take on roles such as Engineering Technician within Amazon's operations network. Many former apprentices have progressed into lead engineer and maintenance management positions.
