About the role
This Level 4 Project Management Apprenticeship offers practical knowledge into a Project Manager's responsibility for end-to-end project delivery. You will develop understanding on delivering projects in line with defined objectives and taking decisions to manage stakeholder expectations by leading a multi-skilled, cross-disciplinary team. The programme balances part-time university study with practical experience. You will be involved in all aspects of the Project Management process, applying appropriate governance and project management methods and techniques to initiate and execute projects to meet strategic objectives. You may have opportunities to take part in planned rotations across several different functions. Upon completion, you will have the skills and experience to become a project management assistant in Network Rail.
Requirements
You should be an enthusiastic individual who is a logical thinker with an organised mindset. You should enjoy collaborating with other team members and be confident in communicating with people of all levels. Must be self-motivated with a good work ethic, have strong interpersonal skills, be a proactive team player, passionate and eager to contribute thoughts and create fresh ideas. An interest in Project Management is essential. You must be able to connect with others easily and build strong relationships.
Working week
Generally Monday to Friday, but may involve shift patterns, travelling to various sites, and working across a mix of weather conditions.

Training & development
You will develop a work-based e-portfolio via a combination of workplace experience and one-to-one support in the workplace. Monthly workshops will also take place. You will receive training from the team you are placed in to help you develop the skills needed for a career with Network Rail. Apprentices may become student members of the Association for Project Management (APM) as the first step of professional membership, with eligibility for progression to associate membership upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
Future prospects
Upon completion of the apprenticeship programme (up to 4 years), you can apply for Project Management positions within Network Rail. You will have gained practical knowledge of project management, understanding of programme management techniques, and experience in managing projects within larger programmes.
