From your first day as a Graduate Apprentice you will be an active engineering team member working as part of our Electronic Engineering project team. You'll be involved in developing, delivering and supporting our electronic designs from start to finish within the full range of our products. You will be using the latest industry standard CAD tools to design PCB Assemblies, then testing and debugging, picking up key skills in the process. Graduate Apprentice Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Overview
You will be an active engineering team member, working as part of our Mechanical Engineering Design project team. Involved in developing, delivering and supporting our mechanical designs from start to finish, within the full range of our products. We will train you to use industry standard CAD and Simulation tools. Skills you will use to design parts, components and sub-assemblies, up to full laser systems. This will include control of ordering or fabricating designs and then hands-on assembly of prototypes. As a member of the Mechanical Design team, you will pull together external off-the-shelf componentry and internal optical and electronic sub-assemblies into full systems, picking up key engineering skills in the process. You will have responsibility for achievement of both personal and team-based goals, delivering project focused outputs. You will be encouraged to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment, understanding critical needs and prioritising tasks and workload. You will be well supported by the Mechanical team and a whole variety of Coherent employees as you grow into your new career. We are offering our apprentice a learning and development opportunity that will support your progress in a stable and technically challenging environment. Through a structured training plan, you will achieve a BEng (Hons) Engineering Design and Manufacturing which will be studied through a blended work-based learning path at the University of Strathclyde. This degree course is accredited by three engineering professional bodies and has been designed to recognise your engineering competencies which are mapped to the UK Specification for Incorporated Engineer throughout the four years of study.
You should have a passion for a future career in engineering and see this as a wonderful opportunity to work and study through the next 4 years and beyond. We are looking for a good communicator and team player. Someone with excellent listening skills with energy, drive and initiative.
