Apprentice Residential Support Worker J3501
Apprenticeships are open from age 16, once you have finished Year 11 (S4 in Scotland).
About the role
Your role will include:
- Supporting learners to develop independent living skills, including preparing healthy meals, personal care and hygiene, shopping and managing money
- Creating a safe, caring and positive environment where learners feel supported and valued
- Supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of learners
- Helping young people develop their social and communication skills through activities, projects and time spent in the community
- Supporting learners to travel independently to college, work placements and social activities
- Planning and supporting enjoyable leisure and social activities both at the residential centre and in the wider community
- Helping learners develop their employability skills and prepare for adult life
- Recording learner progress and celebrating their achievements, while identifying areas where they may need additional support
- Working closely with college staff, parents, carers and other professionals to make sure each learner receives the right support
- Taking part in team meetings, contributing to personalised programmes, risk assessments and behaviour management plans
- Following Health & Safety, Safeguarding and other College procedures
- Helping to create an inclusive environment where everyone is respected and their differences are valued
- Providing a high level of customer service to learners, families, colleagues and other visitors
As an apprentice, you will:
- Gain hands-on experience in a real working environment
- Work alongside experienced professionals who will support your development
- Develop valuable skills in communication, teamwork, safeguarding, wellbeing and supporting independence
- Gain a recognised apprenticeship qualification
- Build experience that could lead to a longer-term career in education, care, support work or the wider public and community sector
- Have the opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of the young people you support

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, for the right candidate their could be an opportunity to progress onto further apprenticeship qualifications or a full-time role within the college.
