About the role
As a Safety Case Degree Apprentice, you will be part of a training programme designed to develop the skills required to successfully develop and manage Sellafield Safety Cases. You will follow a training scheme, developing core skills in the areas of science and engineering whilst undertaking wider practical elements of training on exciting new build, commissioning and decommissioning projects. You will get to work on exciting projects and deliver complex pieces of work whilst becoming an integral part of the Safety Case profession.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), including Maths, English Language, and one Science or Engineering subject. At least 96 UCAS points from A-Level/T-Level, preferably in STEM subjects (Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Physics), but not mandatory. Other Level 3 STEM or Vocational qualifications may be accepted. If lacking A-Level Maths or higher Engineering, you must have a Grade 6 (B) in GCSE Maths. Functional Skills Level 2 is considered to be equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 (C). Candidates will be required to achieve appropriate security and medical clearances.

Training & development
Cumbria-based: A 3-month induction at local training facility followed by work placements at Sellafield or satellite offices. Academic learning 1 day per week off-site, with some pathways including Practical Engineering Operations training. Warrington-based: Year 1 full-time academic and engineering studies at local provider. Years 2–5 office-based at Hinton House, Warrington, with continued academic studies via day release.
Future prospects
Level 5 ST0380 Nuclear Technician Apprenticeship with Level 5 Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Engineering or Science aligned to chosen pathway. Progression available to Level 6 ST0289 Nuclear Scientist and Nuclear Engineer Apprenticeship with Level 6 Bachelor's Degree (BEng or BSc) over further 2-year period.
