Apprentice Healthcare Science Associate
About the role
The apprentice will work as part of the Microbiology team, supporting Biomedical Scientists and other staff. Duties will include receiving, sorting, labelling, preparing and processing specimens, preparing reagents and controls, using laboratory equipment and computer systems, maintaining stock, responding to enquires and supporting the safe disposal of clinical waste. All duties will be carried out under supervision and in line with standard operating procedures.
Working week
The department operates a 24/7 shift system at A4C rates. It is expected that the post holder will participate in shift working after a suitable period of training.

Training & development
- As an apprentice, you will receive all the training you need to be able to carry out this role fully and competently, and you will undertake the Healthcare Science Associate Level 4 apprenticeship standard
- You will be released for study to achieve this qualification (location to be confirmed)
- Though the department is based at The James Cook University Hospital, this position may require cross-site working as appropriate
- Following the successful achievement of the apprenticeship standard, opportunities will be available for the apprentice to progress
Things to consider
